Who needs their identity verified?
The new requirements will apply to:
- ALL new and existing Directors of UK companies
- ALL new and existing individual members of an LLP
- ALL new and existing people with significant control (PSC) of a company or LLP.
- ALL individuals filing information at Companies House, whether on their own behalf or on behalf of another.
When is this being implemented?
The current timelines are:
- 18th November 2025 – Mandatory ID verification begins for new appointments/incorporations. For existing Directors/PSCs there will be a 12 month transition period.
- Transition Period (approx. 12 months to November 2026) – Existing Directors and PSCs will need to verify their identity at the earliest next filing with Companies House.
Who can Verify me?
There are two ways to be verified. Directors/PSCs of companies can self-verify themselves via companies house. Alternatively, an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) can be used to do the verification. DD Chartered Accountants are a verified ACSP.
Once the verification is completed the verified individual will receive a personal code. This will need to be provided to your accountant/agent that may file on your behalf. They will need this to complete the submission.
If you are a Director/PSC of multiple companies, only one verification needs to be done.
What happens if Verification is not completed?
Verification will be mandatory and if not done may result in penalties/fines.
Also, without verification the following cannot be done:
- New filings
- New Incorporations
